Roller Derby: not the Group of Misfits You can expect

It may surprise you that the real identities behind some of your favorite personalities are derby. The ladies who make Silicon Valley Roller Girls are like the ladies of any other team in Derby, an eclectic mix of women from various backgrounds and professions. SVRG consisting of professors, mothers, fitness trainers, business employees and more. They are the girls next door by day and women-derby clash of the night. However one of the biggest draws to this sport, which has seen a huge revival in recent years is not the draw of celebrity Derby or percussive action guaranteed. For many girls, one of the main reasons to join roller derby is for the camaraderie of team play.

I know that this is especially true for me. After a tough decision to return to my hometown in the Bay Area, I was really down about being away from all my friends I left in New Orleans. I wanted to do something where I meet people, especially girls, I would then, and after playing sports most of my life, I really missed the fun and camaraderie of team play. I had toyed with the idea of joining a team of Derby while living in the Big Easy, but I never quite found the time. My blues have been moving quickly relieved when I attended my first practice with roller derby SVRG in late March. Three months later I can still say that one of the best things about my decision to join Derby is the fact that I am once again without a team. I love the feeling of being part of something bigger than myself, and when you join the Derby, you join your league and join the Women's Flat Track Derby all, the regulator under the National sport.

In addition to spending time with his teammates in training, most women are involved in roller derby derby as extra-curricular league meetings, fundraisers, craft nights, community service and more yet. Soon, women will SVRG done community service at Happy Hallow, a park and zoo in San Jose, California. Recently after much planning and hard work, we recently raised $ 1,400 at a fundraiser to fight mud. Sale of goods, raffle tickets, the opportunity to see mud wrestling and derby girls spanking, proceeds go to our home turf battle during the first weekend in August.

All these events are the result of women SVRG working hard to keep Derby in the dream of life in Silicon Valley. Working together to put on all these events brings the team closer. Derby women have the desire to knock some girls around the rink, but what makes a team great derby is the closeness that comes from all the work they do together outside the rink.
